BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Hunter College softball team (5-7) delivered a complete performance in the opener and continued to battle through the second game on Saturday afternoon, splitting a nonconference doubleheader against Mount Saint Vincent (3-6) at Randall's Island. The Hawks earned an 8-5 win in Game 1 before falling 10-1 in Game 2.

Game 1:
Hunter College earned a bounce-back win to open the day, defeating Mount Saint Vincent 8-5 in a seven-inning contest. The Hawks collected nine hits and capitalized on five errors by the Dolphins to pull ahead late in the game.

After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first, the Purple and Gold quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame, highlighted by a two-run single from Nicole Bowe and a sacrifice fly by Elizabeth Thompson to add another RBI. The Hawks surged ahead in the third inning as Jessica Fowler drew a bases-loaded walk, and Adriana Ramirez followed with an RBI single to make it 6-4.

Mount Saint Vincent pulled within one in the seventh, but Hunter secured the win thanks to key insurance runs in the sixth inning. Grace Basil drove in two with a two-out single, capping a strong all-around game.

Grace Basil finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs, while Sonia Rosales Rosenthal went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Johany Galva added two hits and scored twice. In the circle, Isabella Thumhart earned the win in relief, pitching five innings and allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three.

Game 2:
Hunter opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Rosales Rosenthal launched a solo home run to left, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead and later, also doubled in the fourth and was the only Hunter player with multiple hits in the game.

The Hawks continued to put runners on throughout the contest.  Thompson, Janice Hernandez, Paige Witalec, and Brianna Flores each added singles, but the home squad was unable to capitalize with runners in scoring position.

In the circle, Basil started and pitched four innings, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits while striking out two. Isabella Thumhart entered in relief, tossing the final two innings and conceding two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.

Up Next:
