BOX SCORE PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The Hunter College men's tennis team opened up its 2025 season with a 5-4 victory over St. Joseph's-Long Island on Saturday afternoon. The home squad won two of three doubles matches and split the six singles contests to secure the narrow road win.
The Hawks opened strong in doubles play. Alexander Hagiu and Raymond Leu teamed up for a 6-2 win at the No. 1 position, while Anil Singh and Savio Francis took No. 2 doubles, 6-3. The Golden Eagles claimed No. 3 doubles in a 7-5 decision, giving Hunter a 2-1 edge heading into singles action.
Hagiu continued his dominant play with a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-4), while Leu also cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2. Singh delivered another strong performance at No. 3 singles, notching a 6-1, 6-0 win to help push the Hawks to five total match wins.
The home team claimed the remaining three singles courts, including a tight three-set battle at No. 4 singles that Francis narrowly dropped after winning the second set 6-4.
Hunter returns to action on Wednesday, March 26, for a road matchup against the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
