PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team opened up its 2025 season with a 7-0 win on the road against Purchase College on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks (1-0) controlled the match from the outset, sweeping all three doubles flights and carrying that momentum into straight-set victories across all six singles courts.
In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of Sara Contreras and Isabella Tenij edged out a 6-4 win to kick things off, followed by a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles from Julia Aksamentova and Anna Chapko. At the No. 3 position, Sree Kolla and Sara Novo rolled to a 6-2 win to complete the sweep and give Hunter the early advantage.
Hunter didn't drop a set in singles play to Purchase (0-1), with Tenij leading the way at No. 1 singles with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 decision. Chapko followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot, while Novo cruised 6-2, 6-1 at third singles.
Contreras earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 4 position, Aksamentova picked up a 6-1, 6-1 result at No. 5, and Kolla closed out the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
Hunter resumes action on Sept. 17 at St. Joseph's Long Island for a 5:00 p.m. road match.
