Hunter Wraps Up Kean Tournament With Saturday Doubleheader

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 UNION, N.J. — The Hunter College women's volleyball team closed out the Kean University Tournament with a pair of Saturday contests, falling in straight sets to Salisbury University and Alfred University. The Hawks dropped to 3-13 overall following the weekend slate.

Match 1: Salisbury 3, Hunter 0
(25-9, 25-13, 25-12)

Hunter struggled to find rhythm offensively against a high-powered Salisbury (10-4) squad, falling in three sets in the opening match of the day.

Vera Montalbano led the team with four kills on eight attempts, hitting .250, while Kassidy Cruz Nuesi added a pair of kills and a block assist. Amina Moummad chipped in three kills, one service ace, and four points, though was held to a negative hitting percentage for the match.

Madeline Snyder dished out 18 assists and added two digs and one block assist. Lily Mattison recorded five kills and a block assist, and Michelle Liu finished with two kills, two block assists, and a team-best three points on the stat sheet.

The Hawks were held to an overall hitting percentage of -.058 while tallying 18 kills and 19 digs. Salisbury hit .455 and recorded 11 service aces and 12 block assists to take control in each set.

Match 2: Alfred 3, Hunter 0
(25-18, 25-23, 25-15)

Hunter bounced back with a much more competitive showing in the afternoon match against Alfred (3-9), particularly in the second set, but came up short in another three-set decision.

Amina Moummad had a standout performance, leading the team with 14 kills on 36 attempts for a .167 hitting clip. She also added two aces and 10 digs for a team-high 16.0 points. Mattison added seven kills, one ace, and six digs, hitting .200 for the match.

Snyder again ran the offense with 17 assists and collected eight digs, while Michelle Liu notched one kill, one ace, and two digs, while Cruz Nuesi contributed four kills and a dig. Theano Liodakis led the defense with 12 digs and a pair of assists.

Hunter totaled 30 kills on a .109 hitting percentage, adding 45 digs and four service aces, while giving Alfred a run in a tightly contested second set that ended 25-23.

The Hawks return to conference play on Sept. 23 as the squad heads to Brooklyn College for a 6:00 p.m. start.
