BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team earned its third win of the season with a 1–0 shutout at Pratt Institute, riding an early goal from
Brandon Fridburg and a strong team defensive effort to close out non-conference play at the Aviator Sports Center.
Rookie
Brandon Fridburg found the back of the net in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a quick combination from
Georgios Tsiakas and
Leonardo Kaplan. The pair worked the ball into the right side of the box, where B. Fridburg finished for his second goal of the season
.
Hunter (3-4-1) dominated possession early, outshooting the Cannoneers 10-4 in the opening half and tallying nine corner kicks over the course of the match. Kaplan led the team with four shots, while B. Fridburg,
Saleel Eldin, and
Yassine Jaballah each generated multiple attempts.
Defensively, the Hawks limited Pratt to nine total shots, with none on target, as
Max Tsigalnitsky recorded a clean sheet without needing to make a save. The back line of
Conor Sullivan,
Samuel Benson,
Allan Conway, and
Patrick Irving disrupted play throughout the evening and stifled several late pushes from the hosts.
The win marked the team's second shutout of the season and gives the Hawks momentum heading into the start of conference play.
Hunter returns to Randall's Island on Oct. 1 against John Jay for a 12 p.m. match.
