WORCESTER, Mass. — The Hunter College women's basketball team closed out play at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Tournament on Sunday with a 73–37 setback against nationally ranked No. 12 Bates at Harrington Auditorium.
Hunter (8-4, 2-0 CUNYAC) struggled to find offensive rhythm early, falling behind after scoring just 14 points in the first half. The Hawks showed resilience coming out of halftime, putting together their strongest stretch in the third quarter, but were unable to overcome the early deficit.
Alexa Charles led all scorers for Hunter with 26 points, finishing 9-of-23 from the field while knocking down six free throws. She also added seven rebounds, six steals, and a block, continuing her strong play throughout the tournament.
Hunter's best offensive stretch came in the third quarter, where the Hawks scored 21 points and connected on three 3-pointers, trimming the margin with improved ball movement and defensive pressure. Makkedah Murray contributed seven points, four assists, and two steals, while Gianna Henriques added four points and a block in the post.
The Hawks return to the court on Jan. 3 as they host Farmingdale for a 12 p.m. tip-off, marking the team's final nonconference game of the season.
