Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Hunter Defeats Brooklyn, 1-0

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team remained undefeated in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play Saturday afternoon, earning a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brooklyn College at Randall's Island. The Hawks improved to 4-5-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play behind a first-half goal from Jacob Davis and a strong defensive effort.

Hunter created several early opportunities, with Georgios Tsiakas testing the Brooklyn (5-3-3, 2-2-0 CUNYAC) goalkeeper in the 13th minute before Filippos Lakiotis put another attempt on target in the 29th. The Hawks broke through in the 31st minute when Youssef Kangoute set up Davis for the lone goal of the match, giving the Purple and Gold a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks continued to apply pressure throughout the remainder of the opening half, generating seven shots and placing six on goal. Tsiakas and Luciano Aguirre each forced saves, while Lakiotis added another attempt on target just before the break.

Hunter's defense took center stage in the second half as Brooklyn increased its offensive pressure. Goalkeeper Matthew Fridburg anchored the effort, turning away five shots after halftime, including four saves in a six-minute stretch late in the match to preserve the one-goal advantage.

The Hawks' back line, led by Mikey Doyle, Fernando Zuvela and Lakiotis, helped withstand Brooklyn's second-half push, while Mamadou Faye and Jaerang Lee also contributed defensively. Hunter held firm through the final whistle to secure its third consecutive conference victory and second shutout in CUNYAC play.

Fridburg finished with eight saves across 90 minutes to secure the shutout. Tsiakas led the Hunter attack with four shots, including three on goal, while Lakiotis added two shots on target. Davis converted his lone attempt for the game-winning goal, with Kangoute earning the assist.

Hunter returns to action on Oct. 14 for a 2 p.m. match at Baruch.
