Hunter Routs Medgar Evers, 3-0, in Conference Opener

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team opened City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play in dominant fashion Tuesday evening, sweeping Medgar Evers, 25-7, 25-5, 25-7, on the road.

With the victory, Hunter improved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play, delivering one of its most efficient performances of the season. The Hawks hit an impressive .457 as a team, recording 30 kills on just nine errors in 46 attempts while holding their opponent to a negative hitting percentage.

Hunter set the tone immediately, hitting .611 in the opening set en route to a 25-7 win. The Hawks continued their balanced attack in the second, cruising to a 25-5 decision, before closing out the match with a 25-7 third set.

Emanuel Cochran led the way with four kills on five swings for an .800 hitting percentage and added five service aces. Jaidan LaSalle was nearly flawless offensively, finishing with five kills on six attempts (.833), while Eddy Kang added five kills on .833 hitting in limited action.

Jon Domingo paced the Hawks with six kills, and K-Ci Akwandoh contributed three kills while adding a solo block. Demetri Gournelos tallied three service aces, and Anthony Bardales delivered five aces in one set of action as Hunter totaled 22 service aces overall.

Brandon Yeh directed the offense with 15 assists, while Lenny Arbitman added 11 assists and a team-high six service aces. Defensively, the Hawks limited rallies with steady back-row play and committed just five service errors in the match.

The Hawks return to the court for a non conference tri-match at Baruch this weekend. The Purple and Gold is set to face off against the Bearcats at 11 a.m. followed by Regis College at 1 p.m.
