JAMAICA, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's basketball team fell at York on Tuesday night, dropping an 84-66 decision on the road.
Hunter (4-17, 2-8 CUNYAC) stayed within striking distance at halftime, trailing 37-33, but was unable to match York's (7-10, 7-3 CUNYAC) pace after the break as the Hawks were outscored 47-33 in the second half.
JP Maaba led Hunter with 19 points, knocking down two 3-pointers and going a perfect 7-for-7 at the free-throw line. Jeremiah Otasowie added 14 points on 5-for-5 shooting from the stripe while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.
Georgios Gatsias provided a lift off the bench with 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and Kareem McDonald chipped in four points and a team-high four assists. Sloan Ireland finished with six points and six rebounds.
Hunter battled on the glass, finishing with 40 rebounds and 11 offensive boards, but shot 31.9% from the field (22-for-69). The Hawks went 8-for-23 from beyond the arc and 14-for-19 at the line.
Hunter continues conference play at Baruch for the Battle of Lexington on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
