Hawks Struggle Against St. Joseph's Brooklyn

NEW YORK, N.Y.-The Hunter College softball team continued its season with a home doubleheader against St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks (2-10) struggled to produce offensively, falling in both games to the Bears (4-6).

Game 1: Hunter 0, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 7
Hunter struggled to manufacture tough at bats against St. Joseph's pitching, managing two singles and two walks in a 7-0 non-conference loss to the Bears.

The visitors struck for two runs in the first inning, before adding another three runs in the top of the third inning.

Trailing 5-0 ath the bottom of the third frame, the Hawks got into the hit column when Madison Drouet singled, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brianna Flores worked a tough walk, to bring the top of the Hawks' order up with two runners on and one out but were unable to capitalize as the next two batters went down in order.

Abigail Bidinger added another hit for Hunter with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was not enough to mount a comeback, as Hunter fell 7-0 in the first came of the day.

Grace Basil (0-4) took the loss in the circle, throwing all seven innings and giving up seven earned runs while striking out two in the process.

Game 2: Hunter 0, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 2
The Hawks regrouped and put forward an impressive effort in a tough loss in game two. The Hawks turned to Bidinger in the circle to quiet the Bears' bats. The freshman pitched all seven innings with three strikeouts, holding the visitor's offense to just two runs.

Isabella Thumhart led Hunter's offense with two hits - a double and a single. The Hawks attempted to swing the momentum in the bottom of the fifth frame, following Thumhart's single, Elizabath Thompson reached first with a single of her own  before Alejandra Aquino reached on an error to load the bases. The opportunity was short lived however, with the next two batters retiring in order, leaving three on base as the inning came to a close.

Sonia Rosales-Rosenthal notched one more hit but Hunter continued to struggle offensively throughout game two, ultimately falling 0-2.

Hunter looks to bounce back tomorrow with a doubleheader at Ramapo, starting at 3 p.m.
