NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Hunter College men's volleyball team saw its CUNYAC Tournament run come to a close Thursday night, falling to Baruch College in straight sets, 26-19, 25-19, 25-22, in a semifinal matchup at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Hunter concludes the conference tournament with a 17-9 overall record and a 6-3 mark in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play, while Baruch advances to the championship match.
Despite the result, the Hawks showed resilience throughout, battling in multiple extended rallies and keeping the third set within reach late. Hunter recorded its best offensive output in the final frame with 11 kills and a .179 hitting percentage, but was unable to overcome the deficit.
Ahmed Mohamed led the Hawks with a match-high 15 kills while adding two service aces and six digs. For his performance throughout the tournament, Mohamed was named to the CUNYAC All-Tournament Team.
Wesley Stubbs directed the offense with 20 assists and added a service ace and five digs, while Demetri Gournelos contributed a kill and steady defensive play.
At the net, Emmanuel Cochran and K-Ci Akwandoh combined for six block assists, helping Hunter total 10 team blocks. Bradley Campos anchored the back row with five digs as the Hawks continued to compete defensively across all three sets.
Hunter finished with 23 kills and continued to show fight throughout the match, particularly in the third set where the Hawks kept the score within reach down the stretch.
The Hawks await ECAC tournament seeding next week.
