Softball Falls to Brooklyn in CUNYAC Tournament

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Hunter College softball team saw its season come to an end on Friday morning with a 7-4 loss to Brooklyn College in an elimination game of the CUNYAC Championship. The Hawks conclude the 2026 campaign with a 13-30 overall record.

Hunter struck first with two runs in the opening inning. Grace Basil led off with a single before Abigail Bidinger delivered an RBI triple to right center. Elizabeth Thompson later added a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks an early 2-0 advantage.

Brooklyn answered with two runs in the bottom half before taking control with a three-run fourth inning. The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-2.

The Hawks attempted a comeback in the sixth inning, scoring twice to cut into the deficit. Giordana Bowen opened the frame with a double, while Brianna Flores drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Bidinger followed with an RBI single as Hunter trimmed the lead to three.

Bidinger led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Basil added two hits and scored a run, while Bowen recorded two hits and a run scored. Thompson, Flores, and Madison Drouet each contributed a hit as Hunter finished with 10 hits in the contest.

In the circle, Bidinger tossed a complete game, allowing seven runs while striking out four.

The loss concludes Hunter's season after the Hawks advanced to the second day of the CUNYAC Championship as the tournament's No. 3 seed.
