EWING, N.J.- The Hunter College men's soccer team closed out its nonconference slate on Satruday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to The College of New Jersey at Lions Stadium. The Hawks move to 0-4-1 on the season.
Hunter wasted little time getting on the board, as Yassine Jaballah opened the scoring in impressive fashion in the ninth minute. Jaballah launched an attempt from approximately 60 yards out that found the back of the net, giving the Hawks an early 1-0 advantage.
After TCNJ responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead, Hunter battled back before the break. In the 42nd minute, Georgios Tsiakas found the back of the net to pull the Hawks even at 2-2, sending the teams into halftime deadlocked.
Matthew Fridburg helped keep Hunter in the match throughout the opening period, turning away four shots in the first half. He finished the evening with five saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
TCNJ regained the lead in the 62nd minute before adding an insurance goal in the 80th. Hunter continued to search for an equalizer in the second half, with Davide Pescerelli recording an attempt in the 69th minute before Tsiakas put another shot on goal in the 78th.
Tsiakas led the Hunter attack with three shots, including two on goal and his first-half tally. Jaballah scored on his lone attempt of the match, while Pescerelli added a shot off the bench.
The Hawks now turn their attention to City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play. Hunter will host John Jay in its home and conference opener Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. on Randall's Island.
