BRONX, N.Y.- The Hunter College women's tennis team opened City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Lehman College on Wednesday afternoon at the APEX Courts.
The Hawks improved to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the victory, sweeping all three doubles matches before taking each of the six singles contests in straight sets.
Hunter set the tone in doubles play, surrendering just one game across the three matches. Amber Lai and Apllinariia Stepanenko earned a 6-1 victory at the top spot, while Ana-maria Bichinashvili and Sree Kolla cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 2. Julia Aksamentova and Ava Cooper completed the doubles sweep with another 6-0 victory at No. 3.
The Hawks continued their strong play in singles action. Stepanenko did not surrender a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1, while Bichinashvili followed with a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2. Aksamentova added a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the third position.
Lai also posted a perfect 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4, while Kolla earned a 6-1, 6-3 win in the fifth spot. Samantha Moser rounded out the conference-opening sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
The Purple and Gold returns to the court on Sept. 27 as it faces new conference opponent Pratt on the road. First serve is slated for 12 p.m.
