Lakiotis’ Pair of Headers Lifts Hunter Past Pratt, 4-0

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Hunter College men's soccer team earned its second straight victory Tuesday afternoon, using a pair of headed goals from Filippos Lakiotis to secure a 4-0 nonconference win over Pratt at Randall's Island.

Hunter (2-4-1) controlled the attack from the opening whistle, generating 13 shots in the first half and consistently putting pressure on the Pratt (1-5-1) defense. Georgios Tsiakas led the early attack, creating several chances and putting four shots on goal in the opening period.

The Hawks broke through in the 33rd minute off a well-placed free kick from Yassine Jaballah. Lakiotis connected with Jaballah's service and headed the ball into the net to give Hunter a 1-0 advantage. Jaballah continued to cause problems with his set-piece delivery throughout the afternoon, creating several dangerous opportunities for the Hawks.

Hunter doubled its advantage in the 53rd minute, with Lakiotis once again finding the back of the net with a header. Jaerang Lee helped create the opportunity off a Hunter corner, setting up Lakiotis for his second goal of the match and giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead.

The Purple and Gold continued to pull away late. Juan Rambal set up Andre Baraglia for Hunter's third goal in the 79th minute before Michael Verdov capped the scoring in the 85th off an assist from Youssef Kangoute.

Lucas Moon made his first career start in goal for Hunter and turned away the lone shot on target he faced during a scoreless first half. Max Tsigalnitsky took over after the break and added a pair of saves as the duo combined for Hunter's second consecutive shutout.

Hunter finished with a season-high 22 shots, placing 15 on goal, while limiting Pratt to seven attempts and just two on target. Tsiakas led the attack with nine shots and five on goal, while Lakiotis converted both of his attempts for his two-goal performance.

Jacob Davis was instrumental in the midfield, helping distribute the ball and create opportunities for the Hunter attack. Lee also made an impact in his first start of the season, helping generate chances going forward while contributing to the Hawks' shutout effort on the defensive end.

The Hawks return to Randall's Island on Thursday, Oct. 1, when they host Albertus Magnus in another nonconference matchup at 3 p.m.
