Hunter College is thrilled to announce the addition of Willie Cartagena as the new Assistant Coach for the Men's Soccer Team in August 2024. Willie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the program, having coached and trained at both the professional and youth levels in Ecuador.

A dedicated goalkeeper trainer, Willie worked from 2011 to 2016 with the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador, preparing goalkeepers for top-tier competition in Ecuador's professional soccer league. His expertise extends beyond the technical and tactical aspects of the game, focusing on the psychological and physical development of athletes. Willie has supervised the growth of multiple goalkeepers and has been instrumental in helping professional teams, including Independiente del Valle, achieve success, such as promotion to Ecuador's prestigious Serie A.

Willie holds an "A" soccer coaching license from US Soccer, as well as a National Goalkeeping license, reflecting his commitment to excellence and development. He also brings a strong academic background, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and two Master's degrees in Education and School Administration from the City College of New York.
