Marvin Hawkins

Marvin Hawkins was named head coach of the Hunter College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field programs in August 2022. Now in his third outdoor season with the Hawks, Hawkins brings more than 30 years of coaching experience, including a 28-year tenure at Irving High School where he led his teams to 25 championships and coached 301 individual title winners across conference, county, state, and national levels. His athletes have included 18 All-Americans.

In 2025, Hawkins guided the Hunter men’s outdoor track and field team to a second-place finish at the CUNYAC Championships. The Hawks scored in 14 of 19 events, sweeping the podium in the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m steeplechase, while also capturing the 4x400m relay title and placing second in both the 4x100m and 4x800m relays. Hunter rounded out its strong team performance with top-five finishes in the shot put and javelin.

A graduate of Seton Hall University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, Hawkins is a USATF Level 1 certified coach. He is known for his technical precision, mentorship, and commitment to helping student-athletes succeed both on the track and in the classroom.
