Mike Fisher completed his first season as head coach of the Hunter College softball program in 2025, guiding the Hawks to a second-place regular-season finish in CUNYAC and a postseason appearance in the conference semifinals. Under Fisher’s leadership, Hunter led the league in total hits (278), doubles (68), and RBIs (156) while earning series sweeps over York, Lehman, and Baruch. The Hawks entered the playoffs on a four-game win streak and handed Brooklyn its first conference loss of the season to clinch the No. 2 seed.
Several players reached historic milestones during Fisher’s debut season. Jessica Fowler surpassed 100 career hits, and Paige Witalec broke the program’s all-time doubles record (42), as well as single-season marks for hits (61) and total career hits (183). Witalec was named CUNYAC Player of the Year, Isabella Thumhart earned Rookie of the Year, and three players were selected as All-Stars. Fowler also received CUNYAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention.
Fisher joined Hunter with an extensive coaching resume, including previous positions at Purchase College (SUNY), Bronx High School of Science, and John Jay High School. He is the founder of the Pro-Swing Lady Pride 18U showcase team, which placed seventh at Worlds in 2016 and helped dozens of athletes advance to NCAA programs.
In addition to coaching, Fisher has more than 20 years of teaching experience and currently serves as a Physical Education teacher at PS 153 in the Bronx. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Manhattanville College, and is a certified Registered Athletic Administrator (NIAAA).
A former Division I football player, Fisher brings a competitive mindset and developmental focus to his role. Off the field, he enjoys spending time with family, walking his rescue dogs, weightlifting, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
