Daniel Selsky was named the head cross country and track and field coach for both the men and women in August of 2015 and enters his third year at the helm. To date, he has six Coach of the Year nods while 62 of his athletes were named CUNYAC All-Stars (42 women, 20 men). Additionally, his women’s team has won the “triple crown” each year (winning all three championships; cross country, indoor and outdoor).
Selsky’s second year was once again impressive on both the men’s and women’s side. The women successfully defended their titles in all three seasons and once again took home the “triple crown”; the fourth in school history. The men were the runners up in cross country and finished fifth and fourth at the indoor and outdoor championships respectively. At the CUNYAC Cross Country Championships, five women earned All-Star status while two men earned the same. He coached the men’s individual champion in Walter Rodriguez and claimed Women’s Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
The women’s indoor season was once again successful under Selsky’s direction. They won the championship handily and had the Championship Meet Performer and Field Performer of the Year in Tristan Bevans and Rookie of the Year in Julia Leask. Additionally, six were crowned individual event champions and five earned All-Star nods. The men finished in fifth and had three earn All-Star status. Selsky was awarded Coach of the Year for both the men and women.
During outdoor season, the women solidified their “triple crown” with a slim margin of victory over CCNY. Once again, his athletes garnered Rookie of the Year and Field Performer of the Year in Leask and Bevans respectively while seven were individual event champions, one relay earned first place and eight took home All-Star status. For his efforts, Selsky earned CUNYAC Coach of the Year. On the men’s side, the squad earned three All-Star nods and crowned as many individual event champions.
In his first year, he led the women to the “triple crown”, winning the conference championship in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. During the cross country season, under his direction, he had the overall race winner and Runner of the Year in Debbie Ramirez while Tiffany Merlinsky cashed in on Rookie of the Year honors. Overall, he had eight earn All-Star honors and he was named the Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. On the men’s side, the squad finished in third place while Rodriguez was the individual runner up. Three were named to the CUNYAC All-Star team.
For the 2015-16 indoor campaign, Selsky’s women’s team won the CUNYAC Championship convincingly and had individual race winners in the 800m, mile and 3k. Impressively, his squad swept the top four spots in both the 800m and 3k. Nine women earned All-Star honors while Kristy Carlin earned Meet MVP. The men finished third and had six All-Stars and four event winners. Meet MVP Rodriguez won each of the three events he competed in (800m, mile, 3k).
Capping his first year, Selsky completed the “triple crown” on the women’s side as they dominated the outdoor track and field championships. He coached six women to individual titles and had the Rookie of the Year in Cheryl Chan to compliment seven All-Stars and his second Coach of the Year award. The men once again finished in third and impressed in the distance events, taking two individual titles in the 3k steeple and 5k; both won by Rodriguez who was also named the Meet MVP. Three were named CUNYAC All-Stars.
