Randy Bresil enters his 19th season as the head coach of the Hunter College women’s fencing program. A 2004 Hunter graduate and former Hawk fencer, Bresil has guided both teams to steady growth and increased postseason competitiveness over nearly two decades at the helm.
In 2024–25, the women’s team finished 12th in the USFCA Division III standings and 10th at the NIWFA Championships. Brean Tobin led the way individually, placing seventh overall—the program’s best individual result at the NIWFA meet since 2015. Tobin also earned Second Team All-Conference honors and placed eighth in foil at the EWFC Championships, where the foil squad earned a sixth-place team finish.
Since the 2015–16 season, Bresil has coached 30 women to NCAA Regional appearances, with six qualifying in each of three consecutive years. In 2014–15, Allison Berdichevsky became the first Hunter fencer since 1952 to win gold in foil at both the NIWFA Christmas Invitational and the NIWFA Championship. She was awarded the Julia Jones Trophy and named EWFC Woman of the Year the following season.
Bresil’s coaching career at Hunter began in 2012–13. Since then, he has led 25 men to NCAA Regional appearances and helped the men's team reach a national ranking of 11th in Division III during the 2024–25 season. Past highlights include a third-place NCAA Regional finish and Temple Open title for Anton Chmut in 2019–20, and a MACFA individual sabre championship by Zaheer Booth in 2018–19.
Bresil continues to emphasize competitive growth, academic success, and developing complete student-athletes across all weapons.
