Randy Bresil

Randy Bresil enters his eighth season as the head coach of the men's and women's fencing teams.

During the 2019-20 season, the women posted a 3-38 overall record with wins coming over Lafayette, CCNY and Yeshiva. He had one athlete in Mira Daphnie Castanares compete in the NCAA Regional. On the men's side, they posted a 6-30 record with wins coming over Denison, Rowan, Rutgers, The College of New Jersey, Yeshiva, and Detroit Mercy. The team finished ninth at the MACFA Championship with Anton Chmut taking first place in epee and Aaron Buachie placing sixth in epee. At the NCAA Regional, he had five fencers compete with Chmut placing third overall and being selected for the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, the tournament was canceled. Chmut also became the first Hunter athlete in school history to win the Temple Open.

The 2018-19 women's season saw a 1-28-1 record in what proved to be a rebuilding year. Highlights of the season included a 22nd placed at the NIWFA Championship and two NCAA Regional Qualifiers in Stephanie Lucano and Jean Suh. Additionally, Michelle Rangel was named to the NIWFA All-Academic Team. On the men's side, they posted a 5-23 record on the season. Highlights included a ninth place team finish at the MACFA Championship and five NCAA Regional qualifiers. Zaheer Booth was the overall MACFA Individual sabre champion and placed seventh at the NCAA Regional.

He took over the reigns of the men's and women's fencing programs in 2012-13. A 2004 graduate of Hunter and former Hawk fencer himself, Bresil has been slowly increasing the win totals on the men's side and recently capped the 2017-18 season with seven wins; the most since 2008-09. Additionally, he's had a total of 25 men compete at the NCAA Regional meet, seven of which went during the 2017-18 year; the most in his tenure.

On the women's side, he's increased his win total since the 2015-16 season and in six years, has coached a total of 30 athletes compete at the NCAA Regional. The most he had compete at once came during the 2014-15 season in which seven represented Hunter. Since then, he's had six compete in each of the last three seasons. During the 2014-15 season, under his direction, Allison Berdichevsky, placed first in foil at the NIWFA Christmas Invitational and then placed first once again in foil at the NIWFA Championship and was awarded the Julia Jones Trophy. She became the first female fencer since 1952 to win gold medals at both events. In the 2015-16 season, Berdichevsky was named the EWFC Woman of the Year by the league's coaches.
