Coach Marvin

Marvin Hawkins

Marvin Hawkins is in his third season as head coach of the Hunter College women’s indoor track and field program, having joined the department in August 2022. With more than 31 years of coaching experience—including 28 years at Irving High School—Hawkins brings a championship pedigree to the Hawks, having guided teams to 25 titles and coached over 300 individual champions at the conference, state, and national levels. He is a USATF Level 1 certified coach and has coached 18 All-Americans over his career.

In 2024–25, Hawkins led Hunter to a second-place finish at the CUNYAC Indoor Championships, where the Hawks posted standout performances across sprints, jumps, and mid-distance. Jamie Risso was named both CUNYAC Field Athlete of the Year and Championship MVP, setting two school records with a mark of 5.46m in the long jump and 11.45m in the triple jump. The team produced seven CUNYAC All-Stars, with key contributions from Michaela Scott, Eliah Yode, and Maya Thompson.

For his efforts, Hawkins was named the 2025 CUNYAC Coach of the Year, marking his first career indoor honor on the women’s side. His ability to develop athletes across multiple disciplines while promoting academic excellence has helped elevate the program’s conference standing year over year.

A former runner at Essex Catholic High School and Seton Hall University, Hawkins holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and is known for instilling a balanced, team-first culture both on and off the track.
