Marvin Hawkins has been named the head coach of the Hunter College men’s & women’s Cross Country team & Indoor/Outdoor Track team in August of 2022.
Hawkins joins Hunter Athletics with over 31 years of coaching experience, notably the head coach of Cross Country & Indoor/Outdoor track at Irving High School for 28 years. His team’s have earned 25 Championships, 301 Individual Championship titles (on the conference, county, state, and nation level), and coached 18 All-American athletes.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Hawkins to the Hawk Family. He will bring his extensive cross country/track and field coaching experience to our men's and women's teams. He will bring his long standing teaching skills to the team, with the value of recruiting, retaining and graduating student-athletes. I am confident his enthusiasm, expertise and proven track record, will keep the Hawks competitive, while we head into Fall 2022 and onto the future.”- Terry Wansart
He began his running career at Essex Catholic High School from 1970-74, and went on to attend Seton Hall University to obtain a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education. Hawkins is a USATF level 1 certified Coach, and brings a tremendous record of awards and accolades to the program.
