Tim Phanthavong begins his tenure as the Associate Athletic Director, Budget and Finance at Hunter College for the 2024-25 academic year.
Phanthavong served as the Operations Manager for the Friend of the High Line in NYC prior to joining to Hawks and after serving as the Assistant Director of Campus Programming at Princeton University since 2020. During his tenure at Princeton, he drove a culture of "Education Through Athletics," resulting in two national champions and elevating one club team to NCAA Division 1 varsity status. He excelled in strategic fundraising, surpassing targets by 119% in FY22 and outpacing FY23 metrics by over $500k in private donations. He generated over $1 million in athletic facilities revenue and raised FY23 retention to 1,414 participants by advising team executives and mentoring leaders. He also initiated over 300 community engagement programs.
Prior to his time at Princeton, Phanthavong was the Program Manager - Intramural and Club Sports at Brown University. During his tenure at Brown, he improved university-wide engagement and athletic operations, overseeing 33 sports programs, managing financial budgets, and coordinating post-season championships. He increased participant engagement, advanced business operations, and promoted talent development projects.
In previous roles, he supported youth communities, drove sales revenue, and coordinated sports leagues and special events. Phanthavong holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports & Leisure Management from Eastern Connecticut State University and is expected to graduate with a Master of Science in Management from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in December 2024. He also holds certifications in Business Analytics and as a ScrumMaster and was a 2022 Spot Achievement Award recipient.Â
Phanthavong started his intercollegiate athletics career as an intern at the University of Rhode Island athletic dept. supporting the former Senior Associate AD. Since then he has a proven track record of developing winning club programs that promote holistic excellence including six National Titles, 6 Top-3 National Podiums, 8 Conference/Ivy League Titles and 1 Olympian (Rio 2016 - Sailing) and 1 Olympic Qualifier (Cycling). He has also seen success propelling club sports teams to NCAA D1 status at two different Ivy League institutions (W.Rugby - Princeton, W.Rugby & Sailing - Brown).
Phanthanvong resides in East Rutherford, NJ with his fiancée, Kristina and cockapoo dog, Benji. In his free time, he is an avid sports fan that roots for Manchester United and enjoys playing soccer and golf regularly.
