New York, NY – Sophomore forward
Andrea Buckham (Jamaica, NY/Flushing) continues to lead the Hawks, scoring 24 points and adding 16 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year as Hunter defeats Medgar Evers College 64-60 in CUNY Athletic Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Hitting the first two baskets of the game, Medgar Evers would take a 4-0 lead, but this would be their largest and only lead of the game as Hunter went on to tie the game three times before taking the lead with 14:02 left in the first half and never trailed again.
Sophomore guard
Mona McKenzie (New York, NY/Park West) was one of three Hawks to finish in double-figures, scoring 12, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Senior forward
Joanna Balta (Astoria, NY/560 Lykgo) added ten points of her own for Hunter.
The Cougars received contributions from freshman guard
Danielle Moseley (Brooklyn, NY/Westminster) who finished with a team high 21 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard
Shauntelle Nelson (Brooklyn, NY/August Martin) added 19 points and ten rebounds.
Hunter now improves to 3-3 in the conference and will look towards Friday when they host Lehman College in a key North Division matchup. Earlier this month, the Lightning came out with a six point victory over Hunter at the APEX. Lehman enters the game with a 6-1 conference record and a 10-8 overall record.
