New York, NY – Sophomore forward
Andrea Buckham (Jamaica, NY/Flushing) once again was the leading scorer for the Hawks with 22 points and pulled down 13 boards as Hunter soared past York College 50-30 in the first game of a CUNY Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader Wednesday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Hunter held just a four point lead after a low scoring first half, 21-17.
Buckham led all scorers in the first with 11 points. Hunter then broke open the game in the second, going on a 21-5 run to go up 42-22 with 9:16 left and were never challenged for the lead.
York's high scorer was junior guard
Delores Maeweather (Jamaica, NY/Campus Magnet) who finished with ten points and six rebounds.
Maeweather would be the only Cardinals to finish in double figures. Freshman forward
Niya Jarvis (Bronx, NY/Talent Unlimited) had York's second highest point total, six points and also had five rebounds.
After tonight's victory, the Hawks improve to 5-5 in the conference and are now tied for third place in the north division and tied for fourth overall in the conference. They return to action on Friday, when they head to Brooklyn, NY to face the Yellow Jackets of New York City College of Technology for their first and only meeting of the season. The Yellow Jackets will enter Friday's game with a 5-16 overall record and 3-7 conference record.
