Maspeth, NY – Freshman forward Mauro Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY/EBC Bushwick) scored his fourth goal of the season during the first overtime session to give Hunter a 2-1 victory over John Jay College in a CUNY Athletic Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, NY.

The Bloodhounds struck first when freshman forward Henrique Avellar (Goiania, Brazil/Julia Richmond) found the back of the net for an unassisted goal at 15:22. Junior midfielder Oscar Dotti (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) tied things up 13 minutes later, scoring his fourth goal of the season. The score remained 1-1 until Ortiz put the Hawks ahead, two minutes into the overtime period. Sophomore forward Danny Vera (Orange County, CA/Mater Dei) assisted on both goals for the Hawks and now leads the team with five assists this season.

Sophomore keeper Bradley Highfield (Dryden, NY/Dryden) improves to 4-0 on the season, making three saves in his fourth start of the season. Freshman Chris Adao (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) had 13 saves and allowed two goals in net for the Bloodhounds.

Today's victory keeps the Hawk atop the CUNYAC with a 5-1-1 conference record, and they now stand at 8-5-1 overall. The Hawks return to the pitch on Tuesday for a non-conference match with New York University at 7:00 p.m. at the Metropolitan Oval.
