Andrea Buckham (Queens, NY/Flushing) had her third double-double of the season, scoring 24 points and pulling down 17 boards to help the Hawks to a 61-56 non-conference victory over Old Westbury in women' s basketball action Tuesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks win their third straight game to improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Panthers are handed just their second loss of the season, to fall to 4-2. Hunter led for most of the game and even held of 16 point lead with 7:23 left to go in the game. However, foul trouble plagued the Hawks and it allowed Old Westbury to go on a 16-0 run and tie the game with 4:11 left on the block.
Buckham then converted on the game's next two baskets to put the Hawks up by four and junior guard
Deseree Boler (Bronx, NY/Patapsco) made the final two points of the game from the free throw line to give Hunter the victory.
Boler finished the game with a season high 12 points and nine assists, while junior guard
Shay Branch El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) added 16 points for the Hawks. The Panthers were led by senior guard Pamela Robinson (Wheatley Hieghts, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) who scored 22 points and senior guard Shameeka Bryan (Jamaica, NY/Cardozo) had 11 points and ten rebounds.
The Hawks will now enjoy a three week break from action as they do not return to the hardwood until December 30, when Rutgers-Newark comes to the Sportsplex for a 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
