New York, NY – Sophomore guard
Shay Branch-El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) scored a team high 19 points and added seven rebounds in a tough defeat to Ramapo College 60-52 Wednesday evening in their final regular season home contest before opening up post season play this Sunday.
It was an active night at the Hunter Sportsplex as the Hunter women's basketball team honored their three seniors,
Rebecca Daverin,
Brittany Jackolski and
Mona McKenzie and also showed their support of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's “Think Pink” Initiative by wearing pink T-Shirts and headbands.
Heading into the second half with a 21-18 lead, the Hawks broke things open midway through on a 8-2 run that stretched the lead to 33-26, stifling the Roadrunners with a full court press. However, Ramapo was able to recover with an 11-4 run that was sparked by junior guard
Lauren Moschel (Fair Lawn, NJ/St. Mary's) who drained a shot from downtown to get things going.
Moschel would finish with a game high 23 points and also added five assists in the victory.
Sophomore forward
Andrea Buckham (Jamaica, NY/Flushing) recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds as the only other Hawk to finish in double-digits. Sophomore center
Beth Wienmann (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequanock) added 12 points and six rebounds for Ramapo in 16 minutes of action.
Hunter will now begin to prepare for the first round of the CUNY Athletic Conference/Con Edison Championship Tournament when they host the fifth seeded City College of New York on Sunday, February 17 for a 5:00 p.m. game. Be sure to come out and support you're Hawks and they begin their quest towards a CUNYAC Championship.
