New York, NY - Freshman forward Mario Rojas (Pereira, Columbia/Yorktown) scored the game winning goal off a rebounded shot to give the Hawks their third straight victory, 2-1 over Maritime College Wednesday night at Icahn Stadium on Randalls Island.

Following a scoreless first half, sophomore midfielder Devin Leahy (Manhattan, NY/Trevor Day) netted his first career goal, sending a rebounded ball over the Privateer keeper at 65:10 to give the Hawks the 1-0 initial lead.

Four minutes later, Privateer freshman Jason Tursi (Farmingdale, NY/Plainedge) headed a ball off a corner kick by freshman midfielder Derrick Sevcik (Toms River, NJ/Msgr. Donovan) to tie the game at one a piece.

Sprinting down the field in a two-on-one situation, freshman forward Saif Zureikat (Amman, Jordan/Cardozo) placed a shot right on the Privateer keeper, which was batted away and right to Rojas to tapped to the right of the keeper and into the net, giving the Hawks a 2-1 lead at 72:12 total time.

Sophomore keeper Harris Papson (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) made nine saves in net for Maritime, while freshman Konstantin Reztsov (Manhattan, NY/Forest Hills) made four saves while earning his first career victory in net for the Hawks.

The Hawks are now 3-3 on the season, while the Privateers fall to 1-1. Hunter returns to action on Saturday, when they host FDU-Florham for a 4:00 p.m. game at Icahn Stadium. This will be the Hawks final non-conference bout before seven straight CUNYAC games.
