Maspeth, NY – Junior midfielder
Andreas Kalpaxis (Glendale, NY/Townsend Harris) netted his second goal of the season after receiving a short pass on a free kick from freshman midfielder
Mauro Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY/EBC Bushwick) giving Hunter a 1-0 lead, but Brooklyn would answer back and the match would end in a 1-1 tie following 20 minutes of overtime in CUNY Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, NY.
Following a scoreless first half, Hunter got on the board at the 73rd minute with
Kalpaxis' goal. Then at the 86th minute, Brooklyn forward
Elis Llagami (Brooklyn, NY/FDR) created a scoring opportunity by putting a shot on goal that bounced off the keeper and was then handled by sophomore
Vasyl Palinchak (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) who sent it into center of the net.
Hunter had a few chances during the overtime periods to earn the victory, but came up short each time. Brooklyn put some shots on the net as well in the extra periods and also had what looked to be a solid opportunity at the net, but it was called off due to an off sides call. The match ended with the Hawks taking a free kick, but were not able to convert.
Senior keeper
Noah Fessler (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) made five saves in net for the Hawks, while junior
Michael Conway (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) nine saves for Brooklyn College.
The Hawks, who are now 4-4-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in the CUNYAC will continue conference play on Wednesday, when they hit the road to face the College of Staten Island for a 3:30 p.m. match.
