Brooklyn, NY – After losing her first set, sophomore
Stefanie Smith (Little Neck, NY/Cardozo) rallied back and won the second and third sets 6-2, 6-2 to win her third singles match and give the Hawks a 5-4 victory over Brooklyn College Thursday night in Brooklyn, NY.
Senior
Evgeniya Kim (Flushing, NY/Cardozo) and sophomore
Ericka Jaramillo (Jamaica, NY/Townsend Harris) started the match off with an 8-5 victory at first doubles, followed by the duo of Smith and junior
Veronica Efimenko (Belarus/#181) took their second doubles match 8-3.
Kim would then go on to win first singles 6-0, 6-0 to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead. Efimenko then put the Hawks up 4-1 with a 6-3, 7-6 win at second singles. Following losses at fourth and sixth singles, Smith was able to put the match away with her singles victory.
The victory improves Hunter season record to 4-0 on the year and in the CUNYAC, while Brooklyn drops its first conference match of the season, falling to 4-1 and 5-4 overall. The Hawks will return to the courts on Friday when they will travel to Flushing, NY for a match with N.Y. City Tech at 3:30 p.m.
