Juanita Whyms (Far Rockaway, NY/Stella Maris) recorded her fourth consecutive double-double, scored 18 points and pulling down a game high 21 rebounds to help lead the Hawks to an 83-56 victory over John Jay College in a CUNY Athletic Conference women's basketball game Tuesday night at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks score marks the highest team points total since they defeated N.Y. City Tech 89-55 back on February 11, 2005.
The Bloodhounds opened up the game with a 7-2 run with junior guard Dominque Grice scoring six of those seven points. However, a couple of quick baskets by Hunter and the game was tied at 7 and again at 9 before Hunter ran away with the game, going up by as much as 17 points in the first half. The second half was all Hunter, pushing the lead up to 31 points before earning the 27 point victory.

Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) scored a team high 20 points along with four steals and four assists. Senior forward
Andrea Buckham (Queens, NY/Flushing) netted 18 points off the bench, shooting 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, while guards
Shamar Stewartson (Springfield Gardens, NY/Far Rockaway) and
Johanna Keilwitz (Wolmirstedt, Germany/Sportgymnasium Halle) each added 11 points and four assists.
For the Bloodhounds, Grice finished with a game high 28 points, followed by junior guard Jessica Lirio with 17 points and sophomore forward Chantelle Smith had a team high nine rebounds.
Hunter now improves to 2-2 on the season and are 1-0 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay falls to 0-4 and 0-1 in the conference. Hunter will be back in action on Friday, when they host The City College of New York for a 5:30 p.m. game as part of the 2009 Hunter Homecoming Celebration.
