Hawks Defense Too Much for Scarlett Raiders in 53-44 Victory

road, opening the game with a full-court press that ignited a 21-4 run and a 25-10 lead from which they never looked back en route to a 53-44 victory over Rutgers-Newark at the Golden Dome Athletic Center.

Hunter was led by senior forward Andrea Buckham (Queens, NY/Flushing) who recorded her 41st career double-double with an 18 points, 10 rebounds performance. She was followed by senior center Juanita Whyms (Far Rockaway, NY/Stella Maris) who added 11 points and was just a rebound shy of her own double-double, with nine boards. Despite scoring a season low five points, junior guard Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) sill had a solid afternoon with seven assists and six rebounds while committing only one turnover.

Rutgers-Newark had two finish in double-digits led by senior forward Courtney Vacca who scored 18 points with 14 rebounds, while junior guard Martyna Ruminska had 13 points.

The Hawks improve to 6-3 on the year, while Rutgers-Newark falls to 6-7. Hunter will be back in action on Wednesday, January 6 when they face conference rival Baruch College for a 5:00 p.m. game.
