Branch & Buckham Lead Hawks To 62-54 Victory

New York, NY – Juniors Shay Branch El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) and Andrea Buckham (Queens, NY, Flushing) each scored 16 points and shot 8-of-10 from the free throw line to help lead the Hawks to a 62-54 victory over John Jay College Friday night in a CUNY Athletic Conference match-up at the Hunter Sportsplex.

After scoring just 21 points in the first half and trailed for a majority of the game, the Hawks put together a 41 points second half and were able to overcome a seven point deficit to walk out with an eight point victory.

Sophomore guard Megan McKenna (Rockaway, NY/Midwood) was the third Hawk to finish in double digits, scoring 13 points and grabbing a team high eight rebounds. As a team, the Hawks shot 75 percent from the free-throw line, sinking 21-of-28 attempts.

Junior forward Parker Griffin (New York, NY) was the high scorer for John Jay with 16 points, while sophomore guard Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NJ//North Babylon) scored 15 points and pulled down ten rebounds, and senior forward Tina Ogunleye (Islandia, NY/Central Islip) finished with a game high 14 rebounds.

Tonight's victory improves the Hawks to 5-8 in the conference and will now travel to the Bronx, NY to face the third seeded Lehman College in the Quarterfinals of the CUNYAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, February 21 at the APEX.
