New York, NY – The Hunter women's basketball team faced a tough opponent on Monday, taking on the Red Hawks of Montclair State University who would take bring an 82-40 victory with them back across the Hudson River in the non-conference match-up at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Junior guard
Shay Branch El-Vielot (Cambria Heights, NY/Canarsie) and junior center
Juanita Whyms (Far Rockaway, NY/Stella Maris) each scored a team high ten points, while
Whyms also had a game high eight rebounds. Junior guard
Ansonia Grant (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) added six points and freshman guard
Angelika Wronowska (Brooklyn, NY/Baruch) had six points off the bench.
The Red Hawks had four players finish in double figures, led by sophomore guard Jamilee Pflug (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) who shot 4-of-6 from downtown for a game high 26 points and a team high six rebounds. Junior forward Kisandra Ayanbeku (Burlington, MA/Randolph) was next in line with 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.
As the Hawks head into their final three games of the season, they will look to pick-up some key conference victories in an attempt to better their seed heading into next week's Quarterfinal game. They will begin this quest on Wednesday on the road, heading uptown to face CCNY for a 5:00 p.m. game and then on Friday with their final conference game of the season, at home against John Jay College also at 5:00 p.m.
