Hoboken, NJ – The Hunter College men's soccer team had a rough outing on Sunday, getting shutout by the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz, 3-0 in the second game of the Stevens Soccer Classic at the De Baun Athletic Complex.
New Paltz sophomore Jimmy Altadonna (Massapequa, NY) netted his second goal of the season on a header off a corner kick pass at the 24th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead that they held through the intermission. Altadonna then scored a second goal at 48:12, once again connecting on a corner kick pass to put the Hawks up 2-0.
New Paltz then added the third goal when sophomore Joe Emberger (Poughkeepsie, NY) sent a pass to the right side of the box where freshman Nicholas DiPaola (Huntington, NY) punched it in at the 67th minute.
Junior Peter Carmel (Ronkonkoma, NY) got the win in net for New Paltz, making three saves in the shutout. Freshman keeper
Alexandre Ilic (Miami, FL/Miami Killian Senior High) made his second start of the season for the Hawks, stopping seven of the 18 shots he saw and allowed all three goals.
Hunter, now 0-3 on the year, will have a week off before returning to the pitch on Saturday, September 12 when they head to Hackettstown, NJ to face the Cyclones of Centenary College a nd to defend their first place finish of a year ago at the Centenary/Premiere Soccer Classic at 4:00 p.m.
