Hawks Edged Out in Overtime

Bronx, NY – Senior forward Andrea Buckham (Queens, NY/Flushing) finished with a game high 22 points and 18 rebounds, but it would be the Lehman Lightning who after holding a seven point first half lead, needed an extra period to earn a 74-72 overtime win over the Hunter Hawks in a CUNY Athletic Conference game Friday night at the APEX in the Bronx, NY.

The Hawks, who trailed for most of the first half, owned a nine point lead in the second half with 7:41 left. However, the Lightning would battle back and take a 62-60 lead on a three-pointer by the team's newest addition, Leslie Mencia, with a 1:17 left in the game. Buckham then answered with a jumper to tie the game 62 which is how the second half ended, forcing the extra period.

Hunter owned the lead for the first half of the overtime period, but Lehman once again came back to reclaim the lead and the eventual victory.

Junior guard Shamar Stewartson (Springfield Gardens, NY/Far Rockaway) had her highest scoring game since her season debut, netting 15 points in 27 minutes off the bench, while senior guard Deseree Boler (Bronx, NY/Patapsco) added 12 points, six assists and six rebounds in 39 minutes of action.

Hunter (6-5) will be back in action on Wednesday, when they host the College of New Rochelle for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference game.
