Soccer Notches Win Over John Jay

Box Score

On Saturday, October 9, the men's soccer team played against the Bloodhounds of John Jay College at the Metropolitan Soccer Oval in Queens. Three first half goals by the Hawks were enough to hold off a late second half John Jay surge to secure the win. The victory advances Hunter to 6-5-3, 4-1-2 CUNYAC while the Bloodhounds fall to 5-6-2, 2-3-2 CUNYAC.

In the 12th minute, Saif Zureikat opened up the scoreboard with an unassisted goal to give the Hawks the early 1-0 lead. With time running down in the first half, Omriy Lifschitz found the back of the net as he was assisted by Mario Baez for the two goal lead. Just 60 second later, at the 44:27 mark, the Bloodhounds gave away the eventual game winning goal as they scored on their own net.

Starting the second half with a comfortable 3-0 lead John Jay continued to try to get back into the game. Hunter pulled starting goalie, Zade Haobsh and put in backup Murtaza Munir for the final 7:10 of the contest. The Bloodhounds took advantage of this and scored their first goal in the 84th minute and again in the final minute, but time would run out and the score would remain 3-2 in favor of Hunter.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 13 when they travel to the Bronx for a game against the Lightning of Lehman College. The game is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
