On Wednesday, October 13, the men's soccer team traveled to the Bronx to take on the Lightning of Lehman College in a conference matchup. Both teams were scoreless through regulation time, but the Hawks came out on top by a Saif Zureikat goal in the early minutes of overtime. With the win, Hunter advances to 7-5-3, 5-1-2 CUNYAC while Lehman drops to 5-9-1, 4-3-1 CUNYAC.
Lehman got the ball rolling as Essenam Agouze fired the first shot of the game, but was wide. Mario Baez responeded with a shot of his own just three minutes lated, but could not connect. Each side had three shots in the first half while the Lightning had two corners to the Hawk's one. Play would be dead even on each side throughout the rest of regulation time with each team firing four shots a piece in the last 45 minutes.
However, at the 92:24 mark, Zureikat notched the unassisted game winning goal to give his team their seventh win of the season. Keeper Zade Haobsh was credited with the shut out and made just one save on the day.
The Hawks are back in action on Saturday, October 16 when they visit the College of Staten Island for a conference matchup at noon.
