Hawks Claim 11th Straight Conference Title

FLUSING MEADOWS, NY - On Satuday, October 23, Hunter worked their way through the 2010 CUNY ATHLETIC CONFERENCE/HOSPITAL FOR SPECIAL SURGERY WOMEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP, sweeping the three doubles matches and claiming two singles to reach five match wins to close out the Bearcats of Baruch and take the win. This is the 11th straight CUNYAC title won for the Hawks. With the win, head coach David Eddy and his squad earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship in May 2011.

Upon conclusion of the doubles matches, the Hawks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as the team of  Epraksi Yushkova and Jane Selegean defeated their Baruch counterparts easily by a score of 8-0 to give the team their first win. At second doubles, Jennifer Kraham and Arielle Kamin tallied the second win by way of an 8-3 margin over Angelina Herman and Viktoriya Morozova. Following their teammates, Stefanie Smith and Ericka Jaramillo closed out doubles in the third flight, 8-4, beating Ana Komar and Natasha Gregorio.

The Hawks needed just two wins in singles action (as per NCAA rules, the match is immediately concluded when the winning team gets to five points) to secure their 11th straight championship. As play begain, Selegean grabbed the first win at second singles, 6-2, 6-0 while Kraham closed it out with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

"It goes without saying that I am proud," said Eddy . "We can now turn our full attention to the NCAA Tournament in May. We're going to play several matches against National-caliber teams in the spring in advance of the ultimate goal."

Kraham was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
