QUEENS, NY - On Saturday, October 2, the men's soccer team took on the Bearcats of Baruch College at the Metropolitan Oval in Queens, New York. The conference rivals battled it out until the 82nd minute when Baruch opened up the score with the eventual game winning goal to secure a 1-0 win over the Hawks. With the loss, Hunter drops to 4-5-3, 2-1-2 CUNYAC while Baruch advances to 6-4-1, 4-2 CUNYAC,
The game proved to be a defensive match up as neither team could find the back of the net through the first 45 minutes of regulation time. The Hawks were out-shot 8-3 in the first and again in the second, 6-9 and had three corner opportunities compared to Baruch's 6. At 81:56, a pass from Jonas Juozaitis found Val Kirykovich who, from 16 yards out, fired a shot to put his team up 1-0. The Hawks would not be able to respond as time would run out.
Bearcat keeper, Michael Murphy made three saves in the win while Hawk goalie Zade Haobsh recorded nine saves.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 5 when they host Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC matchup. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
