New York, NY - On Wednesday night, December 29, the Hawks played host to the Pioneers of William Patterson in a non conference contest to close out the 2010 year. Hunter fell behind early in the game and despite a stronger second half, could not climb out of the defecit eventually falling by a score of 77-43. With the loss, Hunter drops to 3-7, 1-1 CUNYAC while William Paterson moves to 8-2, 1-1 NJAC.
The Hawks fell behind early and were held scoreless in the opening 6:58 of play until senior
Kimberly Bailey stopped the bleeding with a layup. However, the Pioneers, on the strength of April Smith's 12 points and the team shooting 45 percent from the field, they powered through the first 20 minutes, scoring 52 points and putting Hunter in a 32 point hole heading into the second half.
Hunter regrouped and came out playing much better in the second half of the game, shooting 34 percent from the field compared to 25 percent from the first half. Defensively, they caused more Pioneer turnovers, defended shots and held their counterparts to 25 points. Despite the effort, the first half deficit proved too much for the Hawks to recover from as they pulled within no closer than 27 points.

Shamar Stewartson led the Hawks in scoring as she recorded 14 points and seven rebounds while freshman
Marta Banach and
Nicole Lenard pointed six and 11 points respectively. The Pioneers had four in double digit scoring, led by Smith and Lindsey Callander with 15 a piece, Jewell Palmer with 13 and Tatiana Javis tallying 10.
The Hawks return to action on Monday, January 3 when they host the Ducks of the Stevens Institute of Technology in their first game of 2011. The contested is slated for a 6pm start.
