On Wednesday, September 27, the men's soccer team played host to the Violets of NYU in a non-conference game. Hunter got themselves in a 1-0 hole early in the game and continued to battle the offensive pressure by NYU as they let up three more goals in the 4-0 loss. In defeat, the Hawks fall to (4-4-2, 2-0-1 CUNYAC while the Violets advance to 5-2-1.
In the second minute of the game, Chris Ramirez of NYU caught a break, dumped the ball over the Hawk defense and tapped the ball over challenging keeper Zade Haobsh for the early 1-0 lead. Later on in the half, (position) Kyle Green dribbled the ball up the middle and fired a shot that found the back of the net to give the Violets a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Hawk's defense was challenged for most of the game as NYU had control of the ball for the majority of the 90 minutes. In the 60th minute, Green struck again as he received a pass from teammate Colm Dillane and scissor kicked the ball past a diving Haobsh for his second goal of the game. In the final three minutes, a foul in the box allowed Nick Coulson a penalty kick in which he capitalized on to notch NYU's fourth and final goal. The Hawks were out-shot 16-3 and only had two corner kicks to NYU's seven.
The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, September 29 as they play host to the Cardinals of York College in a conference match. The game is slated for a 5:00 pm start.
