Hawks Downed by Baruch

Box Score

New York, NY - On Friday, January 7, the women's basketball team traveled down town to take on CUNYAC and Lexington Avenue rivals, Baruch, for their fourth conference game of the season. The Hawks got off to a slow first half and stepped up their game in the second, but it was not enough as Baruch was too strong, scoring 73 points to Hunter's 43 to take their tenth win of the season. With the loss, the Hawks drop to 4-9, 2-2 in conference action.

Baruch kick started the game, opening with a 10-2 run in the first 3:10, forcing the Hawks to play from behind from the start. Hunter struggled to knock down jumpers, shooting just .214 percent from the field, connecting on just six of 28 and knocking down just five of eleven attempts from the charity stripe. The deficit continued to grow, reaching 25 at one point, but back to back shots from behind the arc by Nicole Lenard and Shamar Stewartson brought the score to 40-19 heading into halftime.

Stewartson opened up the second half with a three pointer and with the help of her team, cut the lead down to 13 points on three different occasions with the last coming at the 10:41 mark when the score read 52-39. However, Baruch surged the second 10 minutes of the half and shut the door on a possible comeback and went on a 19-2 run to close out the last 8:43 of the game.

Lenard was the game's high scorer with 16 points. Teammate Kristen Markoe followed up with 10 points of her own while Stewartson collected eight. Megan Bouwens led the Bearcats with 13 while Jessica Duleba and Karyn Purcell each chipped in with 11 a piece.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, January 12 when they travel down town to take on NYU in a non conference matchup which is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
