New York, NY - On Wednesday, January 5, the women's basketball team headed across town to take on the Beavers of CCNY in their third conference match of the season. The Hawks jumped out to a first half lead of 15, and despite letting the Beavers pull back within striking distance in the second half, surged to a convincing 22 point victory by way of a 66-44 score. With the win, Hunter moves to 4-8, 2-1 CUNYAC while CCNY drops to 1-10, 0-3 CUNYAC.
The Hawks came out firing on both the offensive and defensive ends, holding the Beavers to just nine points in the opening 13:15 while putting up 19 points of their own. They furthered their lead by 15 with 2:15 to go, but a late 5-0 CCNY run cut the lead down to nine heading into halftime.
The Beavers, with the late run in the first half, came out with momentum on their side as they opened up with an 8-1 run in first 5:01. A three pointer by
Johanna Keilwitz stopped the bleeding and sparked a huge surge enabling Hunter to power away in the final 15 minutes of play, extending their lead up to as much as 24 points. It proved to be too much to overcome as the Hawks ran the time out to claim their fourth win of the season.

Shamar Stewartson had a game high of 21 points while freshman
Kristen Markoe had 11 points and 13 rebounds and
Nicole Lenard chipped in with 14 points and nine boards.
The Hawks are back in action as they take on CUNYAC rivals, Baruch College in the Battle of Lexington on Friday, January 7 at 7:30 pm.
