In the first match against Baruch, Hunter took a 2-1 advantage in doubles which proved to be crucial in the win as Jen Kraham and
Flavia Guidi teamed up in flight #1 to down the Bearcat duo Patricia Correia and Victoria Morozova, 8-1.
Jane Selegean and
Caroline Kaleda continued HC's dominant performance in flight #2 as the pair beat Amanda Naraine and Alina Bero, 8-2. Baruch bounced back in flight #3 with Marianna Kogan and Anna Komar taking down
Daniella Weitzman and Arielle Zeiff, 8-3.
The Hawks also claimed the first three flights in singles play with Selegean overpowering Correia in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to set the tone. Kraham continued building momentum with an impressive win over Morozova (6-1, 6-0) before Guidi downed Naraine (6-1, 6-0). The Bearcats would go on and win the next three flights but Hunter held on for the 5-4 victory.
Hunter wouldn't fair as well against St. Joseph's – Long Island as the Eagles claimed the 5-3 win. Selegean and Kraham each won their singles matches defeating Katie Soeder (6-2, 6-2) and Nancy Marroquin (6-1, 6-2) in flights one and two respectively but the Eagles battled back with three wins, taking flights 3, 5 and 6 while flight 4 was unfinished on account of darkness.
Doubles play saw Selegean and Kraham team up for the lone Hawk win as the tandem took down Soeder and Marroquin, 8-4 but St. Joseph's captured the next two flights to secure the 5-3 victory.
The Hawks are now 6-2 overall and 6-1 in the CUNYAC following Monday's results.
