BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, NY – Spurred by a two-goal performance from senior Anthony Intrabartolo, the Hunter College men's soccer team defeated the College of Staten Island, 2-1 at Randall's Island on Saturday evening in the Hawks' CUNY Athletic Conference season finale.
The win improves Hunter to 4-7-4 and 3-2-3 in the CUNYAC while the Dolphins drop to 3-9-1 and 3-5 in conference play with today's defeat.
Despite conceding an early goal to CSI, Hunter dominated throughout today's match. The Hawks held the offensive advantage, taking nine shots against the Dolphins' four with seven of those attempts fired on goal. The Hawks also took three times as many corner kicks, maintaining an 8-2 advantage in that category to control the field of play in today's match.
The Dolphins struck first, doing so in the 28th minute as Dogan Altunsoy deposited Alfonso Castaneda's cross in the back of the net to put CSI up, 1-0 but it wouldn't last.
In the 35th minute, Intrabartolo would score his first goal of the night, finishing a cross from Mario Rojas to knot the game up, 1-1.
Hunter controlled the offensive play in second stanza by taking six shots and limiting CSI's chances but missed a few early chances, including a deadly attempt from Danny Vera in the 73rd minute which Dolphin keeper Ahmed El-Ghareib just managed to tip over the crossbar.
Intrabartolo's fifth attempt proved to be the difference maker late in today's match as the senior netted his second goal on the day, scoring on a through-ball from Adamu Hamza to put the Hawks up 2-1 in the 84th minute.
Hunter returns to non-conference action on Sunday, October 23 when they travel to Utica to take on the Pioneers at 1 pm.
