Women's Tennis Rita Chinyere - Hunter College Athletics

Hawks Top York, Advance to CUNYAC / HSS Women's Tennis Championship Finals

Stage set for Finals against Brooklyn College

RESULTS

FLUSHING, NY –
The second-seeded Hunter College women's tennis team cruised to a 5-0 victory against the third-seed York College to earn a place in the CUNY Athletic Conference/Hospital for Special Surgery Women's Tennis Championship finals at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Jennifer Kraham and Flavia Quidi got the Hawks going, blanking Valerie Roland and Nina Olladikankwu, 8-0 in flight #1. Jane Selegean and Gina Yeo warded off Amba Chanoine and Nicole Jones in flight #2 to earn a 8-4 win before Stephanie Ahwreng and Caroline Kaleda closed out flight three with the 8-5 victory.

With a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into to singles, the Hawks needed to win two more matches to earn today's victory and did so behind strong solo performances from Guidi and Selegean. Playing in flight #1, Selegean topped Roland in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Shortly thereafter, Guidi topped Olladikankwu (6-0, 6-0) to send the Hawks to tomorrow's CUNYAC Championship finals.

The Hawks will look to repeat last year's championship performance and hopefully earn their 12th consecutive title as they face the top-seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs, who successfully advanced with a 5-1 over the College of Staten Island this evening.

Tomorrow's match (Saturday, October 22nd) is scheduled to start at 4pm at the USTA National Tennis Center.
