NEW YORK, NY - The Hunter College women's basketball team opens the 2011-12 season in the Hunter SportsPlex tonight at 6:00pm. The Hawks host the Roadrunners from Ramapo College in the season opener for both teams.

The Hawks return six players from last year's 9-17 squad. D3Hoops.com Atlantic Region and CUNYAC Rookie of the Year Kristen Markoe leads a talented quartet of sophomores that include Marta Banach, Shamel Jamie, and Nicole Lenard, while redshirt senior guard Megan McKenna and junior Johanna Keilwitz look to provide veteran leadership. Head Coach Vana Loukissas has added former Hostos Community College teammates Erika DeJesus and Myra Molina as well as sophomore forward Alease Vaugh via transfer, while freshmen Shatira Hamlet, Carolyn Kweon, Joey Chan, Charli Brown look to work their way into the playing rotation.

Ramapo was 15-11 last season, and earned a berth in the 2010-11 ECAC Metro Tournament. They have been selected to place fourth in the New Jersey Athletic Conference's North Division. Fourth-year head coach Mike Eineker returns one all-conference player from last year's ECAC Tournament squad - junior guard Alexa Ryan.
